Win10 Desktop Lockup using v1.17.1

While ripping 2 DVDs with version 1.17.1 my Windows 10 Asus i7 desktop PC slowly becomes unusable. Explorer.exe becomes unresponsive and freezes as well as other apps become unusable. I am forced to reboot which always results in hung status at the Restarting.. logo. I have to force a shutdown at that point. When I revert back to version 1.16.7, all is good doing exactly the same processes. Please advise.
