Your errors are consistent with a dirty disk. Have you read If you're experiencing rip errors, please read here first! yet?

The disc is pretty scratched up, that could be it. I'll try some other methods of ripping it since the title seems to play in DVD players ok.

Ah, typical child-accessible optical disk.

One method I've used for getting disks like that to rip at least once is to clean and wax the surface using Pledge or similar furniture polish. It will dissolve the finger prints, fill in minor scratches, and you can often get at least one rip out of it. Spray on, rub in with a CLEAN finger, then wipe dry, going from the center of the disk to the rim. Make sure it is DRY before you put it in the drive.

If that doesn't work, a lot of video rental places stores (when you can find them) have disk resurfacing machines and (hopefully!) someone who knows how to use them. They'll polish off a surface layer to get rid of the scratches.

And there is always the alternative of renting it, ripping it, and use the original as proof of purchase if anyone gets bitchy about it.

Or, upgrade to the BD version, where you don't have to worry about interlaced video.

Thanks for all the info! I was able to successfully rip with Handbrake + libdvdcss, but it was less than ideal compared to MakeMKV. Took about 45-60 minutes, when MakeMKV has been tearing through discs at 4-10 minutes each. LibreDrive v6 is awesome!!!

Fortunately in the stack of DVDs I'm going through, there have only been 3 or 4 like Lilo & Stitch that failed to rip, so I'm gonna go back to the others that failed and try Handbraking them too.

One thing to be aware of - handbrake is not intended for ripping. If you force it to with the third-party library you mentioned, and it hits any error, the rip will stop right there, and be judged successful. You might have only a portion of the video.
