Bones DVD - Large Tracks

#1 Post by Kn4thx » Wed Mar 25, 2020 10:52 pm

I just started ripping Bones Season 1 DVD and there are 2 tracks per side of the double sided discs. Each track is ~2.0GB. Why would a DVD track be this large? Does that mean there is extra data or better quality? The quality doesnt make sense since DVD quality is 480 but was curious if anyone knew what plusses or minuses this may have.

What you describe sounds like normal behavior. MPEG2 is not very efficient and requires 2GB of data for a 1 hour show to be of decent quality.

You're absolutely right and I feel so foolish now. I have been ripping so many 30 minute episodes lately that when I tried this hour long series, it really threw me off. Plus there were only two tracks per disc so that made it seem even more off. Thank you very much, sorry to bother the forums for something I already knew.
