Failed mkv rip

Post by renMike »

Hi,

I've slowly been backing up my DVDs to mkv format so as the little 'uns don't damage them all too quickly and thought it best to check a few. It's lucky that I did since I found one that doesn't seem right. The DVD was Disneys 'Finding Nemo' and the rip appeared to go soothly e.g. no errors reported. When I played the resulting mkv file through WMP it took some time to queue it up and then showed a black screen with intermittant noises every few seconds. Not liking the look of this I ripped it again and got different restults as this time the video was shown but with a random audio soundtrack to it e.g. spanish or something. I've repeated the rip a number of times and have had one of these symptoms every time.
Out of curiosity I tried playing the mkv through VLC Media Player and it plays fine first time.
I guess I'm missing something in WMP that is stopping the play of this file, but any ideas what?
WMP version = 12.0.7601. ...
MakeMKV version = 1.7.0 (unregistered)
Spliiter = Haali (version ?)
VLC Media Player version = 1.1.11

Thx,

Mike
