I got similar behaviour from the MakeMKV 1.17.7 also.

Open mode is "Auto".

Any idea what the problem is and/or how I can solve the problem?

This may be an error caused by unauthenticated sectors being disrupted.

You mentioned encountering a similar issue in MakeMKV 1.17.7, which suggests that this problem may not be version specific, but rather related to your hardware or the disc itself. This situation may require further exclusion and investigation.

Here are some possible solutions:

Update software and drivers: Ensure that your MakeMKV software and related drivers are the latest versions to ensure that any known issues that may exist have been fixed.
Check the status of the disc: Ensure that your BD-RE disc is not damaged or compromised, and try reading the disc on another device to see if the same issue exists.
Try other discs: If possible, try using other discs for testing to determine if the issue is specific to a particular disc.
Check hardware connection: Ensure that your CD drive is properly connected to the computer, without any looseness or connection issues.

The ASUS & LG drives can behave a little weird sometimes. I find my drives often behave better if they've been power cycled. Since my drives are in a powered, external enclosure, they're fairly easy to turn off for 20 or 30 seconds and then turn back on.

I have no idea if that'll fix your situation, but it is fairly easy to try.

Power cycling the drive (it's in a Mercury USB enclosure) makes no difference. Other disks (e.g. I just tried Jackie Chan's Police Story). work fine.

The Blu-Ray drive (Asus BW-16D1HT) is running, as I understand it, the latest available firmware (MT1959, 3.10).
