DVD stuck indefinitely at "Scanning contents"

Post by paulschreiber »

Summary of Problem
Discs 2 and 3 of "One Strange Rock" hang at "Scanning contents." The remaining time counts up instead of down:
Image

Troubleshooting steps
• I purchased a second copy of the discs to confirm it was not a problem with the discs
• Handbrake was able to read/rip the disc as expected
• Mac DVD Ripper Pro was able to create an ISO of the disc
• Problem also occurs on the ISO, not just the physical disc
• Problem does NOT occur with CellTrim mode

Here is a log showing it failing in auto mode (disc 2) and succeeding in CellTrim mode (discs 2 and 3)

• Problem does NOT occur with CellTrim mode
Clearly a bug then. In 1.17.1 you can keep the "Auto" DVD mode, and if the program hangs, pressing a "Cancel" icon would abort only CellWalk scan (and continue with CellTrim), not entire disc opening process. I'l like to get some debug logs, please see a PM.

I might be experiencing this same problem with 2 new DVD's from Hallmark: Holiday Hotline, The Santa Summit.

The symptoms include: endless scanning with "Remaining" time incrementing (currently at 133:23:00).

Thoughts regarding how to alleviate?

One of the different DVD Opening Modes might help.
