Early Region 2 Japanese DVD from 1997 not ripping

Post by flacguy »

I'm trying to rip this region 2 Japanese Dolby Demo DVD from late 1997, and whenever I try to do so MakeMKV will not properly read the disc. I am on Mac, and I'm using a DVD Decrypted ISO dump not the actual disc (it does the same thing with the DVD so that doesn't make a difference). I have tried the same thing with Windows and I encounter the exact same errors. My drive is set to region 2, and I verified that the drive dumped the disc properly with two different pieces of ripping software. I ensured that it removed all the copy protection and made the ISO backups region-free, and yet none of this made any difference with MakeMKV. I am using the latest version of MakeMKV on Windows and Mac, and attempting to use older versions of MakeMKV produced different errors with no success. I know that the dump itself is not bad as I was able to play it back on my computer as well as play back the disc itself in full. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be going on?

Below is the MakeMKV log from the latest version.

...it continues on for a long while after this with corrupt or invalid errors

When I attempt to create MKVs after this part in the log, it just fails to read the disc/disc image, and saves MKVs with errors.
This same issue occurs with the undecrypted DVD as well.
