Newbie to MakeMKV

My goal is to create a duplicate DVD or Bluray disc which when inserted into my player will function, complete with audio/dialogue menu choices identically to the original. Handbrake will not copy/duplicate an unavailable 1998 Billy Joel DVD with CSS/CPPM protection. Inserted libdvdcss-2.dll (version 1.4.3) file into Handbrake folder as instructed. As Handbrake won't copy my DVD, I'm wondering if I'm using the wrong libdvdcss file? Searching online for libdvdcss Win-64 bit file results in at least 3 websites, each with different file size versions (31kb, 46kb and 607kb). Does file size matter ?

Note: I'm able to create and burn an .mkv file from this 1998 disc which will my OPPO player will recognize as a DATA Disc. However when navigating to the MKV file, it plays without displaying any of the original's menu's.

Will MakeMKV successfully create a backup of the disc in question? On the first screen of MakeMKV, use the icon of the yellow folder with the green arrow. If it works, you should end up with an .iso file of the DVD.

Thanks for your response. The backup disc option creates an .iso file which displays as a DATA disc on my OPPO UDP-203 player (with message to select the "MOVIE" option). Nothing happens when selecting "MOVIE". However, while the disc will not play on my OPPO player, it will play on my Windows laptop using either "5K Player" or DVD and Blu-ray PLUS" app. My primary interest is enjoying on big screen TV though.
While the .MKV file will play on the OPPO player with no MENU displayed, I've discovered that audio and sub-titles may be selected via the remote control.

A backup .iso created from the disc with MakeMKV should include all the menus and things that come on the DVD. As you are aware, creating a .mkv file of an item on the DVD will exclude that stuff.

My expectation would be that burning software like imgburn or Nero should be able to use that .iso file to create a proper DVD Video disc that would behave in a DVD player just like the original.

I don't have an OPPO player, so I can't speak knowledgeably about it.

Most people using MakeMKV are interested in getting the bits off the disc with the relevant audio tracks and subtitle tracks intact and are happy to forgo the menus and un-skippable FBI warnings and previews. The resulting .mkv files have all the necessary data and can be played on TVs, mobile devices, and all manner of things in many different ways.

I've been using Ashampoo Burning Studio 26. Per your suggestion, I'll try imgburn or Nero to see if either creates an .iso which works for this DVD.

I don't have any experience with Ashampoo Burning Studio. I looked up the manual for it online and am a little worried for their entry for Video DVD From Folder. (https://support.ashampoo.com/hc/en-us/articles/22950969629074-Burning-Studio-26-Manual#TOC_96) The claim is that the folder structure for the DVD should be as they list. However, the folder structure listed is the folder structure for a blu-ray, not a DVD.

Perhaps it is merely an error in the manual. In any case, it does not inspire confidence that they're properly creating DVD Video disc.

Truthfully, it has been a long time since I've burned a disc of any kind. I would expect, however, that proper software would take the contents of the .iso and lay it out on the DVD the way a DVD player is expecting.
