I just want the decrypted backup, not the titles repackaged. 1.6.16 gave me that option....
Please change this back to the old behavior!
1.7.0 does not offer option to "backup" a DVD?

The backup feature is, and has always been, for Blu-ray only.

Nonetheless, I find the old behavior desirable.
I can't imagine that it would be difficult to restore it.
Nor can I imagine what it would hurt to restore it.

The behavior hasn't changed. The backup feature is still there, and just like in every version, is only available for Blu-ray.

Not true. Using 1.6.16, I did backups of both BD and DVD, as they were both in the same retail package. Using 1.7.0, I am unable to make backups of DVD material.

Hi!
MakeMKV (and any Matroska-based program) Cannot make FULL DISC BACKUPS of DVDs, because Matroska is (still) not capable of processing DVD menus.

Please explain further.I did backups of both BD and DVD, as they were both in the same retail package.

Re: 1.7.0 does not offer option to "backup" a DVD?
I actually did it accidentally. There are several commercial packages that contain both BD as the main movie, plus BD containing bonus video (notably the X-Men series). After I made backups of both the main material and the bonus material (all BD), I proceeded to do the same for Fargo, which contains BD for the main material, and a DVD for a "digital copy". It was (too) late at night, and I didn't even think about it; when it gave me the opportunity to do a backup, I just clicked it, and it behaved exactly as it would have for a BD. That was with 1.6.16; with 1.7.0, I can't even force it from the command line.
I'd like to store all my video in exactly the same way (BD and DVD): with the same data laid out in the same way as on the optical media, only with scrambling/encryption removed.
If makemkv is not the tool that can do this for me, I may have to seek out commercial alternatives. However, until 1.7.0, it was exactly that tool. I find it very frustrating to have perfectly useful functionality disabled in a version of an application that does not permit me to continue using a (previous) version that does precisely what I desire.

Sounds like all you did was use the "Digital Copy"function and data from the disc - Which would have nothing to do with MakeMKV itself...

Re: 1.7.0 does not offer option to "backup" a DVD?
And why is that disallowed now when it was allowed previously?
Re: 1.7.0 does not offer option to "backup" a DVD?
You are incorrect. MakeMKV has never been able to use the "backup" feature on DVD's. You are mistaken.

And again, Digital Copies have NOTHING to do with MakeMKV...
Because not every Blu-ray disc includes the availability of a Digital Copy. And why is that disallowed now when it was allowed previously?

Re: 1.7.0 does not offer option to "backup" a DVD?
I have been using MakeMKV since v1.5.4, and there has not been a "backup DVD" option in any version I've used.
