No audio on .mkv file

Post by bladula »

Hello, I'm still new to DVD rips so forgive me if this has been addressed already. I'm trying to rip Dr. Kotnis ki Amar Kahani, a hindi film. I've looked at the file with MediaInfo and although the subtitles are fine, the audio file is just completely missing. DVD plays fine on VLC player, and I've set the preferred language on MakeMKV to none, with still the same results. I've also extracted the trailers and advertisements, and the audio file is there.
The log is just this:
Saving 1 titles into directory E:/movies/DR. KOTNIS KI AMAR KAHANI
1 titles saved
What should I do next? Thanks in advance

I can't really find a good reference to the details about the DVD release of Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani (1946).

However, a thing that commonly happens when users report 'no audio' from a rip with MakeMKV is that the disc and therefore the rip have DTS audio. They try to play the rip with Windows Media Player which by default doesn't have support for playing DTS audio.

I do not know if that's true in this case; I'm just speculating. There are some things that can be done regardless.

There's a utility called MediaInfo that will show lots of details about .mkv files. With it you can verify that the ripped file has an audio track in it and what audio codec is used. VLC has by default extensive audio codec support. If you try to play the .mkv file with VLC it will likely work.
