This solved the issue for me. The only difference is that MakeMKV can remain open while launching VLC and opening the DVD. VLC can remain open if desired. Open Disc has to reinitiated in MakeMKV in order to access the disk and scan contents.

KYThrill wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2019 6:14 amI am encountering this same error on v1.14.4. I am also seeing something not yet described. I have two drives, one Libredrive and one not (both LG drives). Not running as admin, I get this error on both drives.
When I run as admin, the Libredrive doesn't give me the Scrambled Sector. The other drive still gives me the error, even as admin. However, that isn't helping me read any addition content (even with errors, Make MKV lists titles).
Further, what appears to be happening when this occurs, is that any content on the 2nd layer of a dual layer disc, is not being read. Disc 1 & Disc 2 of Teen Titans Season 4 both exhibit this behavior. They are dual layer discs. I can successfully copy all the episodes off one layer, but MakeMKV doesn't even see the 2nd layer.
May not be a unique problem to MakeMKV though, because when I play these discs through Cyberlink media player, the menu has all episodes, but it will not play any of the episodes that MakeMKV can't read.
I don't even own a standalone DVD player, but I am going to try and find one to test the discs on to see if those read it. Seems more like it is something were the drives just can't read the 2nd layer of these discs for some reason.
I had the same trouble of ILLEGAL REQUEST...
I tried to flash my BU40N with SDFtool which unfortunately does not open well on my 4K Asus computer's screen (and I was thus unable to use it).
The Hitachi automatic ODD i later on installed also failed to flash my DVD driver.
Finally, I use the "camera" button of MakeMKV. Went to the driver, till the .IFO file.
launched it, got a message of MakeMKV telling me whether I would be happy to open the disk instead of this file. I replied yes...
and then - surprisingly - the ripping started (?????)
Did somebody else observed such a behaviour?
