Fantasia 2000

#1 Post by Kappabear » Mon Dec 17, 2018 5:49 pm

Hi all,

I'm trying to rip Fantasia 2000, so that I can add it to my Plex server. MakeMKV v1.41.2 sees several small video titles, but not the main movie. If I use the "Open File ..." menu in VLC, I see 2 different 1+ GB VOB files, that I can open and play. If I launch Apple's DVD Player, the movie automatically starts playing as expected. None of the titles that MakeMKV display, are what is played in the DVD Player.

Your help is appreciated.

Is this a new release of Fantasia 2000? I ask because I ripped the version being distributed in 2011 without issue.

I'd suggest following the guide in the FAQ link in my signature, and send the files to support@makemkv.com for analysis.

VLC should be able to "play" the DVD from the Open Disc menu (Ctrl-D in Windows), which should show you the titles the same way playing the DVD in a "real" DVD player would. Does it display the main feature, and is it playable that way, or do you have to play it at the VOB level?

I'm wondering if the directory on the disk has issues.

Using Cmd-D (Mac) to Open Disc in VLC, takes me straight to a Menu (Play, Bonus Material, Chapter Selection, and Set up). From there I can choose Play or any of the other options. In Apple's DVD Player, it auto-plays the first chapter.

Titles as listed in VLC, under the Playback menu

That's weird - For me, VLC opens a disk and goes to the on-screen menu, with selections:

Does VLC show you a "title number" list ONLY for this DVD, or all DVDs?

VLC is the same thing for me too, as it's taking me to the on-screen menu with selections:

If I go to the Playback menu, at the bottom is where I see the previous Title list that I submitted.

OK, that confirms that the directory and such is actually readable. Mike's just going to have to figure out why the movie doesn't come up in the selection list.
