Hi All,
I'm still relatively new to MakeMKV, but thus far have been able to figure things out using this forum and using the software successfully! But, now I'm hitting a wall that I don't know how to get over.
I'm ripping a DVD and everything is ripping as expected except for the last title. I believe it is an encryption issue as the episode plays just fine in VLC.
Here's what I've tried so far:
- ejected and scanned the DVD again
- reinstalled MakeMKV (v1.18.3)
- open the title manually (still getting the following error message "Title #5 (0:58:57) was skipped due to navigation error" with "Failed to open disc")
- changed DVD settings to CellFull
Here's the log for opening DVD as normal:
- Using direct disc access mode
- Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:UNRECOVERED READ ERROR' occurred while reading 'BD-RE XD External blura 1.01 HJ11 039925' at offset '3903541248'
- Title #1 has length of 2 seconds which is less than minimum title length of 120 seconds and was therefore skipped
- Fake cells occupy 33% of the title - assuming fake title
- Cells 7-7 were removed from title end
- Title #3 was added (6 cell(s), 0:57:05)
- Cells 7-7 were removed from title end
- Title #4 was added (6 cell(s), 0:57:55)
- Cells 8-8 were removed from title end
- Title #5 (0:58:57) was skipped due to navigation error
- Operation successfully completed // but only showing two titles: "title_t00.mkv" and "title_t01.mkv"
Here's the log for opening manually:
- Using direct disc access mode
- Open DVD manually : "5"
- Cells 8-8 were removed from title end
- Title #5 (0:58:57) was skipped due to navigation error
- Failed to open disc
Navigation Error (and failing to open manually)

Re: Navigation Error (and failing to open manually)
Hi.
Clean the disc and try again. I've recently ripped a lot of DVDs from my collection (over 20 years old) and have encountered navigation error and scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:UNRECOVERED READ ERROR occurred while reading ..... at offset ......, and even VLC gave me problems reading the DVD, but cleaning it (even multiple times) solved them.

Yes, sorry, I just saw you replied before me. It may seem strange, but when I replied to the OP, there was no post before mine. Maybe it's due to a possible time zone difference? I'm just guessing; I really have no idea.

Re: Navigation Error (and failing to open manually)
Thank you for the advise! I didn't have a disc cleaner, but I got one and tried it - still nothing. Taking a closer look, it doesn't look like the DVD is scratched at all.DukeFleed wrote: ↑Mon Feb 16, 2026 11:36 amHi.

Any other ideas?
Re: Navigation Error (and failing to open manually)
I once used DD (I'm a Linux user): https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Dd to make a copy (.iso) of a DVD that kept giving me reading problems with MakeMKV, even after I cleaned it several times. DD couldn't save the entire disc, about 75%, but MakeMKV still read it (only the extras were missing, but fortunately the movie was intact), and so I was able to extract the movie. You could try that too.verbalwarfare2 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 27, 2026 7:12 amThank you for the advise! I didn't have a disc cleaner, but I got one and tried it - still nothing.
