Blade Runner Final Cut (disc 3) - Navigation Errors

Post by eeyorehoop »

I've run into an issue trying to rip disc 3 of the Blade Runner 5-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition. Specifically, MakeMKV is skipping the theatrical, international, and director's cuts of the film. It's able to rip the other content, i.e. the Ridley Scott intros for each of versions.

I've searched the forum but haven't found info on this specific disc. I did try Manual Mode (as best I understand how) as others have suggested to workaround this kind of error, but I get the same outcome.

Below is info from MakeMKV. I'm on MacOS 12.6 and the disc plays fine with VLC and a regular blu-ray player. Any suggestions or pointers someone can offer?

That error means the drive was unable to correctly read a part of the disc. Try gently cleaning the disc and trying again.

Additionally, there are different DVD opening modes. Trying a different one might yield different results.

I know it's a couple of years later, but with the recent news about Disc Rot, I revisited my "Blade Runner" set. I have the five-disc set in the collectible attaché case. I had problems ripping years ago when I was new and trying to do it in Handbrake. The Archival disc wouldn't rip correctly. At that time I attributed it to the branching nature of the three versions on the disc.

I re-ripped a lot of my discs a year or two ago, this time in MKV format with subtitles and commentaries and all the special features. "Blade Runner" wouldn't rip again, dammit. Branching? Damaged Disc? At least I had the Final Cut and the documentary extras.

When the Disc Rot info was revealed the other day I tried again. Discs 1 and 2 both were fine, but once again, disc 3 and disc 5 both failed. I tried watching the three versions on disc 3 and all three fail at exactly the same point, about an hour and seventeen minutes into the picture. I haven't tried watching disc 5.

I guess I'm going to have to get in touch with Warner Bros.

Now to retry my "Forbidden Hollywood" sets. Those were temperamental in MakeMKV, too, and are on the "Disc Rot" list.

I successfully ripped all 5 discs of my Ultimate Edition a few years ago. But if they are on the rot list maybe I can ask Warner for a set of Blu-ray discs 8)
After proof of ownership, Warner send me Blu-ray replacements for a few rotten HD DVDs a couple years ago. No need to send the old discs in. In that regard Warner is (or at least was) very pro consumer.
