New error with 1.17.0

I've been using dvdbackup on Linux to copy dvds to the hard drive then running makemkv to extract titles from the vobs. Before 1.17.0 I got a lot of corrupt data found errors on some discs. 1.17.0 seems to work a lot better, but on a couple of discs I get a new error and makemkvcon seems to stop running but does not actually terminate.

I second this.

I have a DVD folder (decrypted) which I try convert to MKVs. It has 4 titles 3 of which extract just fine. But one results in the above error (v1.17.2)

Tried v1.16.5 — same error, though this time code 477 not 489.

Note that VLC plays the DVD folder just fine, including the title that fails to extract.

Had the same error. In the end, I used MKVToolNix as a workaround: Open each of the different VTS_0X_0.VOB from the VIDEO_TS folder. The program automatically recognizes the remaining VOB files of the one you opened, so when you multiplex afterward, you get a single file.

It is probably corrupted data that is confusing MakeMKV.

Some LG/ASUS are known to just insert random data into the stream if they have trouble properly reading a disc. Pioneer drives don't seem to do this.

For blu-rays, MakeMKV uses the content hash table on the disc to verify that what was read off the disc is correct. DVDs don't have that, so it helps to be a bit lucky.

If you gently clean the disc and rip it again, you might get a better result.
