Missing DVD extras from Angel box set

Post by docbill »

Normally I've been using makeMKV on blu-ray, but I decided to re-rip the TV series Angel from my box set.

I've noticed each season after I rip everything I'm missing a few of the extra features. For example in Season 4, the previously had encoded extra features of the following length 6:51, 7:58, 39:10, 3:04, 5:42, and 6:06. With makeMKV I only ended up with the first three on this list. I did not see any errors in the output log that accounts for the missing extra features. I watched these features and compared with the others, and these are distinctly separate extra features.

I will probably scan the disks with alternate software to see if I can find one of the disks with a missing extra and determine if there is a pattern. However, before I go through all that effort, I thought I would check if this is a known issue, or if there is some feature that could be filtering these extra features. I have the minimum title length set to 115 seconds, so that would not have filtered these extras.

What do you have set for your minimum title length (Preferences, Video tab, at the bottom)?

MakeMKV will not rip (or even make selectable) titles shorter than that minimum.

He'd need to have set it to about 380 to have the effect he's describing.

MakeMKV wouldn't happen to be throwing debug messages at you during scan? Have you checked the log for any discrepancies?

Based on ordering, I suspected the missing extras for season 4 where on disc 6. Sure enough, that is where I found them. When I open the same disc in DVD Shrink 3.2 it subdivides the titles on that disc under Main Movies as the Title 1, Title 2, Title 3 as the three episodes under the disc. Title 5 is the 39:08 extra. Then under "Extras" I see Title 4 is the 7:58 extra. The three missing extras features are listed as "Title 5 (continued)". So it looks like it is the "continued" tracks parts that are being dropped. I played checked the encoded 39:10 minute video just to be certain it didn't contain these "continued" parts.

So now that I know what to look for, and which discs have the problem, what is the best way to obtain and communicate the data needed to look into this?

I'm backing up a lot of my DVDs, and I noticed this problem as well. I was hoping to find a solution here. I love MakeMKV, I don't want to switch to another program.

Let me provide a specific report.

Angel Season 2, Disc 3, Region 1 (Canada / North America).

The featurette "Inside the Agency" that is included on this disc doesn't show up in MakeMKV.

I have my title length set to 2 seconds.

In both cases, I think the steps listed in the FAQ in my signature would be a good idea.... Send the log and .IFO files to Mike, using the svq@makemkv.com email address, for him to look at. At the very least, he can give you the manual open control string that will allow the two extra titles to be selectable.

Did you get an answer to this? I'm going through the same thing right now with the Angel Box Set.

Thanks.

I sent in the report as instructed, and offered more help if needed - more than happy to go through every disc and list the problems and supply the files for each one - but didn't receive any acknowledgement of the report or hear anything about the status of it.

I never heard back from Mike on this, no, re: submitting an email as instructed by Woodstock earlier in the thread.

Since you are having the same issue I guess that nothing has changed in the latest versions of MakeMKV since the time that I was trying this.

I'm more than happy to check all discs and send in IFOs for all discs, if I know that the problem can and will be fixed.

I'm also having this issue. I just ran into this week were there were two discs in the Angel complete set where I could extract the special features for back up. Has any one found a solution to this?
