This is a playback problem, so I hope I've put it in the right thread.
Setup:
Mac OS 10.8.2 & Windows 7 (in Parrallels)
Make MKV 1.7.7 (Registered)
Handbrake 0.9.8 x86_64
OWC Mercury Pro Blu-ray Burner
Toast 11 Tintanium (11.0.6)
Verbatim Bluray & DVD blanks (Rewriteables used to do "test burns").
Sony BDP-S370 Blu-ray Player
Process:
- I'm using MakeMKV to back up 3 Bluray movies (owned by me) to one blu-ray disc. (To protect the originals from the gkids).
- Processed by Handbrake to reduce file sizes to around 7GB and to enure each files encoding profile is High@L4.1 or lower; to ensure they will play on my Sony BDP-S370 after being burnt to a blank disc. (As mentioned in another thread).
- If the MKV file only has DTS audio tracks I process the file using the "Popcorn AudioConvertor 1.87.4" which will convert the DTS audio track to a compatible AC3 file for playback on my Sony BDP-S370. (I opt to keep the DTS file).
- I run all my MKV files through "MKV Chapterizer" using the default of a chapter marker every 5 minutes. (Personal choice).
Burning to a Blu-ray disc:
- I use Toast 11 Tintanium (11.0.6) - DATA tab; DVD-ROM (UDF) setting for burning the 3 MKV files to a blank BD disc.
or:
- I use the BURN option in (Mac OS 10.8.2) FINDER to burn the folder containing the 3 MKV files to a blank BD disc.
Getting to the problem:
- The 3 MKV files I've prepared total 21Gbs. I burn to a blank Blu-ray disc using Toast. Burning completes successfully and I put the disc in my Sony BDP-S370. All 3 files play successfully. I can FF or FR, turn subs (when present) off and on, and jump chapter markers in all 3 files.
- I opt to add a smaller MKV file containing an "extra" from one of the original Blu-rays to fill the spare (approx) 3Gbs. It's prepared in exactly the same way as the original 3 movie files. I add it to Toast and all 4 files burn successfully.
Here's the problem:
The original 3 files play as they did before, I can FF or FR, and jump chapter markers. However when I select the 4th file, it starts playing ok, but I cannot FF or FR, or jump to chapter markers. I get the message:
"This operation currently prohibited for this disc".
OK, there must be something wrong with the 4th file. Right?
I delete the first movie file and burn a disc with 2 movie files and the "extra".
The two movie files play as before, I can FF or FR, and jump chapter markers. When I select the 4th file, (now 3rd), it starst to play as before and I can FF or FR, and jump chapter markers. There's nothing wrong with it that I can figure out.
Add the 1st file back and burn again, and the 4th file again starts playing ok, but I cannot FF or FR, or jump chapter markers, again I get the message: "This operation currently prohibited for this disc".
Has anyone else experienced this?
The only thing I haven't been able to do so far is test the disc with the 4 MKV files on it, on a different brand blu-ray player. I'll try to do that later in the week and hopefully this "problem" is brand/model specific.
Anyone with any thoughts about why I get this message or why this is happening, I'd be delighted to hear from you as working through this issue has taken quiet some time and is driving me a little nuts.
Thanks in advance.
Robert.
