Adding core to TrueHD files on Mac?

Post by rnranimal »

Anyone know of a way to add a core to a TrueHD audio file? My player won't play mkv files which has TrueHD audio tracks that are lacking the core. I have a couple like this. I have the TrueHD and ac3 5.1 tracks that were separated into 2 tracks and need them back together.

I found thdmerge Windows app but was unsuccessful at even getting it to open when trying it at work on their Windows laptop.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_TrueHD

As I understand it, on a blu-ray the Dolby TrueHD track is just Dolby TrueHD. Because it is an optional format for a blu-ray, all blu-rays with Dolby TrueHD include a separate Dolby AC-3 track as well.

This is different from DTS-HD Master Audio which does include a 'core' of the DTS audio.

Demux the MKV with TSMuxer. Load the thd file in USEac3to. Version with GUI.

Convert the thd file to thd+AC3. Then remux with TSMuxer to either files or ISO.

You need to do this in a Windows VM.

Thank you for your response. I ended up figuring out how to use thdmerge with the borrowed laptop but couldn't get it to work on my older PC laptop (it was ignoring the THD file and creating a file the same size as just the ac3). I then found interleaveDolbyStreams Python tool and got that working so now I can do this on my Mac easily. From what I read, interleaveDolbyStreams does the interweaving in a more true way to how the files are on the discs, but both these and the thdmerge files played fine for me via USB on my Sony player.
