Subtitles not showing

My idea is to edit subtitles, so that only the forced subtitles show. I only have the subtitles which show everything.
So far I figured out how to extract the subtitles I want to edit with „gMKVExtractGUI“ and with „MKVToolnix“ I can merge the files.

I used „Subtitle Edit“ to open the given subtitles, then I click on „show only forced subtitles“ and I use the export function to export as a „.sup“ file.

After merging, for some reason the new subtitles will not show up (I‘m using the VLC player).

What did I do wrong? Do I have to make adjustments in the window which says „Blu-ray SUP“ where I can tweak image settings? (I did not change anything before exporting)
