4k mkv file xbox series x

Hi
Will 4k mkv files play directly from external hardrive to xbox series x perfectly?
Or will I have to copy to xbox series x internal HD to play back perfectly.

"Perfectly" depends on your XBox. Does it have issues with reading external drives?

I haven't tried it with a ripped 4k uhd but have played back other formats from a USB drive.

If the XBox supports MKV playback and h.265 HEVC encoding, it SHOULD work.
