Is this real DV?

Post by Gallo73 »

I have been thinking of redoing my MKVs now we have DV support into TS format and playing with the modified exoplayer. Before I embarked on the task I did a test with an older MKV I had and remuxed it to M2TS (apparently less processing for the player) and tried it on my setup which is:

Sony XH95 TV
Sony X800M2 Player via USB

This seems to trigger DV, but given Sony's less than perfect DV implementation I wanted confirmation that the DV meta data was being used. I also did the same with a non DV file and this appears not to have a DV track going into the player (even though everything is output in a DV format on this player once DV is turned on). I lose Atmos as it's discarded by TSMuxer when I load the file but I get DTSHD (I don't have Atmos speakers so it's no big deal).

The Media info before and after for both these files are below and I've attached a screenshot of what the player shows as the input and output files. Can anyone confirm this is real Dolby Vision from this information?

As a side note I couldn't get this to work with the nightly TsMuxer (although that was with Midsommar) - So I used the 04.06 fix version.
