Dual Mono Tracks Labelled as Stereo?

Post by Ferrett1983 »

Hi,

I have a movie with the main audio being 2.0 dual mono according to dvdcompare. Makemkv has the track as a Stereo Track, is this correct? or shall I label as Mono or Dual Mono. Any help would be appreciated cheers

It's still technically a stereo track, just both channels are the same hence dual mono. Rename the track "Mono" if you desire - I do if I know. Mono tracks are usually encoded as 2.0 instead of 1.0 to account for crappy devices routing to the wrong speaker (i.e. not center). Prologic decoding should put it through your center speaker if you prefer not to hear through left and right speakers.

(Also, possible but very unlikely to be actual dual mono where they are totally separate tracks such as voice on left and instrument on right.)
