CCCP is pretty much just ffdshow+haali splitter.
CoreAVC is good too, but costs $$$ and offers not much benefit in my opinion.
Then of course you have the plethora of media players to choose from.
The common ones are:
MPC-HC (can use CCCP, FFdshow, CoreAVC and haali splitter if you want... but does not need them at all)
VLC
mplayer/smplayer
Personally, if on windows, I would just stick to using MPC-HC, you can use it as a standalone portable executable, supports DXVA, and it does not need any extra codec packs or splitters to work as it has ffmpeg compiled in.

Hi!
"FFDShow" coupled with "Microsoft Windows Media Player 11", or "Splash Lite", continue to serve me well regarding .MKV video/audio playback...

I was curious about Splash. I am messing around with Splayer as well, it works very well with MKV's.
I wil check out Splash very soon.
