What is the best way to burn MKV files back to DVD's?

I know there are many posts here about this, I remember reading some a long time ago, but the search feature isn't helping me any.

Thanks,
Kirk

You need DVD authoring software that can take MKV files as input. I understand that some packages will skip re-encoding the video if it's MPeg2 in the MKV file, but I haven't tried any of them recently to know for sure. Last time I did, DVD was "state of the art"...

To create a "working" DVD playing in any DVD player? No idea which tool can do this, means creating a DVD structure from an MKV file. I tried it in the past by extracting the tracks as element files and add them to an DVD Authoring software but this was not working. I think some infos in the stream headers are wrong after writing them to the mkv file.

Or write the files as simple data files to DVD? This can be done with f.e Imgburn.

I used Handbrake to make an *.m4v file. Will see if the smart TV will play that first. All the programs that I found want money to get rid of the watermark. I am not going to do it enough to pay for it. :)

Something like Freemake? Never tried it, but it appears to work like a 'pay for' app I used to use.

I downloaded that one. When I went to burn, it asked me to click a button and sign up for a weekly, monthly, or yearly subscription to "remove the watermark."

I closed it and uninstalled it.

I do buy or donate to shareware and freeware that I like, but don't want to have it crippled right out of the box without at least one free burn without the watermark. Oh well.....

Figures. The tool I've used in the past was from VSO software (ConvertXtoDVD), but IIRC, until it's paid for, it also has the 'trialware watermark'. 7 day trial... give it a shot. There must be a usable freebie out there, somewhere.
