I'm in need of some help. I'm trying to play mkv files on my tv and more often than not I get a static noise in the background. The audio is fine on my computer and it's only mkvs that make the static when playing on the tv. I've tried different HDMI cables, different HDMI ports on the tv, and I'm still completely lost. The strange part is that so far I've tried to watch a couple of movies and some of them which didnt work one day, worked the next, but then won't work the day after that.

That certainly sounds like a hardware problem - loose connection, faulty port, faulty cable, etc...
