Subtitle Not Showing When Seeking in MPC-HC, Not Working At All in VLC

Heyo! I just ripped the Blu-Rays for Naruto Set 2 (Naruto episodes 28-55 spread across 4 discs). I use MPC-HC as my main video player. In MPC-HC, the subtitles do not appear right away when seeking, instead only displaying when the next subtitle appears. So if I seek to a part where someone is talking, I don't get the subtitle for that dialogue until the next subtitle. I tried using VLC to play the video instead, but I can't get the subtitles to work at all in VLC. Any suggestions on what to do? Cheers!

After seeking, that behavior of no subtitles until the next subtitle is supposed to be displayed sounds pretty standard/normal to me.

I just ripped Naruto set 8, and it doesn't have the same behavior, the subtitles appear as soon as I seek. No idea why that would be.
