Framerate of ripped UHD BluRay video is 24 fps but should be 60

Post by inkibally » Fri Jan 15, 2021 12:19 am

Good evening

I just ripped the new 4K UHD version of the first LOTR movie. According to the disc specs it should be running at 60 fps. However when running the mkv video on VLC Media Player all I get is a lousy 23,9 paired with massive screen tearing.
What´s the fix here? So far I haven´t found any (ripping) option that sets up the FPS.

Any ideas?

Best regards

Have you checked the original m2ts with Mediainfo (View > Text)? What does it read under Framerate and what does the MKV?

i think all but one of the lord of the rings are 24fps the other one is 48fps
24fps is the normal frame rate for movies
your screen tearing is driver v-sync issue
but you can and should change your frame rate to match the movie for usually the 23hz one is right at least on my tv it is.

I try fiddling around with the v sync options of my system. I will let you know later. Thx

Ok. The fix was to set the v-sync and pre rendered frames count options in the NVIDIA control panel to 3D Application Setting. It was set to adaptive and 1. Another mistake was to assume the movies had been shot with hfr. They indeed were shot at 24 fps, so there´s no way the BluRay would offer 60, even though it technically supports it. At least the tearing is gone.

Thanks
