DD TrueHD and 5.1
DD TrueHD and 5.1
Right now my HTPC does not support the bitstreaming of HD audio, but I want to have it for the future. If I create an mkv with TrueHD and the Dolby Digital 5.1 core selected, will the LAV splitter use just the supported audio if I do not select to decode the TrueHD.
Re: DD TrueHD and 5.1
You can untick the core and just have the TrueHD ticked, your decoder will only decode the core from inside the TrueHD stream.

Re: DD TrueHD and 5.1
Hmm....isn't Dolby Digital different than DTS where the HD audio and non-HD live as separate tracks? I know that if I select DTS-MA HD and only tell LAV to use DTS then the sound works (DTS shows up on the AVR). This did not happen when I tried it with TrueHD.crowfax wrote:You can untick the core and just have the TrueHD ticked, your decoder will only decode the core from inside the TrueHD stream.
Re: DD TrueHD and 5.1
Nope, TrueHD doesn't have a "core" in the same sense as DTS-HD. On Blu-ray, TrueHD tracks are made of two sub-streams, one TrueHD and one Dolby Digital - but both sub-streams are independent (you don't need to decode the DD sub-stream to decode the TrueHD sub-stream and vice-versa).crowfax wrote:You can untick the core and just have the TrueHD ticked, your decoder will only decode the core from inside the TrueHD stream.
In MakeMKV, if you only tick the TrueHD checkbox, only the TrueHD sub-stream will be present in the output. If your media player can neither bitstream nor decode TrueHD, you'll get no audio.
Re: DD TrueHD and 5.1
Understood...what if I check both TrueHD and DD. How can I select only the DD stream in Media Center...see I still want the TrueHD for when I upgrade my HTPC to something that can bitstream TrueHD.Romansh wrote:Nope, TrueHD doesn't have a "core" in the same sense as DTS-HD. Re: DD TrueHD and 5.1
I am using the Shark007 codecs.....I am thinking I can use one of the splitters to select one of the audio streams. I will take this topic over to those forums to gather opinions....if anyone is interested in how I make out, then post here.
Re: DD TrueHD and 5.1
I switched to using ffdshow audio and it shows that the input is TrueHD which gets downmixed to stereo. How do I make DD be the input audio track when it exists along with TrueHD?
