Verbatim 43888 LG BU40N MKV Has Slightly Different Frame Rate?

#1 Post by kaitoj » Mon Sep 15, 2025 10:30 am

I just got my new Verbatim 43888 with an LG BU40N, i've flashed it and it works great but when I used VLC to checked the frame rate I noticed that the FPS in the MKV Is slightly different than the FPS when playing directly from the disc, I know Makemkv is supposedly only copying what’s on the disc and not changing anything, so is VLC just reporting the wrong FPS for ether the MKV or the Blu-Ray Disc or is something else going on during the ripping process?

I tested with my Blu-Ray copy of Alien Romulus that I just ripped but all others I have ripped are the same..

The Blu-Ray FPS was 23.976024

The MKV Rip FPS was 23.976216

It's only a small differance but as MakeMKV doesn't change anything during the ripping process I'd like to know why this is happening.

I don't have a second drive so I can’t test if this is something with this specific drive but I did rip all my DVDs with an old Samsung DVD drive so I compaird one of the rips FPS with th DVD fps and both were the same so I ripped that same episode using my new 43888 and the FPS was also the same so it seems to be somthing to do with Blu-Rays only.

VLC's information on fps is all over the place if you look at the 3rd and later digits after the dot. If you use Mediainfo it always shows 23.976.

It seems your right I just downloaded an ran some tests using not only the MKV but the actual disc and a disc backup

MakeMKV Disc Backup VLC: 23.976024
MakeMKV Disc Backup MediaInfo: 23.976 (24000/1001)
Blu-Ray Disc MediaInfo: 23.976 (23976/1000) Not sure how accurate this is, it seems very funny to me.
