Are hybrid DV remux's any good?

MKV playback, recompression, remuxing, codec packs, players, howtos, etc.

Are hybrid DV remux's any good?

#1 Post by BadlyDrawnBoy » Sat Feb 19, 2022 2:25 pm

Hi,

I'm seeing MKV DV remux's done from two sources, the blu-ray and then DV metadata from a streaming file.
These are then put into a Profile 8 file like this:

Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dvhe.08.06, BL+RPU, HDR10 compatible / SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible

Are these any good? What could be lacking?

Cheers

They can be good. Worst thing that could lack IMO is creator's know-how on how to properly convert RPU and adjust metadata.
In case of re-encoded baselayer (BL), knowledge of encoding-settings for HDR10 and transferring its metadata are important.
