MediaPlayer Recommendation: 4k, DV, DTS-HD, Atmos

Post by seb0022 »

Hi everyone,

when i rip my 4k UHD BR main movie incl 1 or 2 audio layers to my nas - is there a media player that supports playing the rips in 4k, Dolby Vision, DTS-HD Sound and Dolby Atmos sound?
Is there a ready to use meadiaplayer or would this be a "built your own" project?

Thank you very much
Seb

Thank you very much for the recommendation - how does ist compare to a Zidoo Z9 or a Himedia Q10? This and maybe a Shield are alternatives that all deliver what i want - correct?

None of these boxes can do all what you are asking for. These can.

Wicht part is it that the Z9x 4k doesn't do?
Does Dolby Vision work with the Nvidia Shield TV Pro? This looks good - why would you recommend the chinese Oppo over it? I am just trying to understand if i really need to go through all the extra work to order one

The Shield has many limitations regarding Dolby Vision. As far as I understand you have to convert the files to MP4 to have Dolby Vision.

The Oppo clones play ripped folders and ISO files w/o any problems with DV. There is currently no alternative w/o cumbersome conversions. Get one. They just play everything what you throw at it - no troubles. Highly recommended. I own a M9702 and it's just perfect.

Thank you very much, that is good to know! I want it as simple as possible out of the box. Didn´t know the Shield need the files to be converted! What about the new Dune Players? The order process of the Oppo seems so complicated ;) But if it really is the best choice...

You will have even more restrictions with the Dune. Your decision...

...and don't be lazy and do your own research. And never blame anybody for suggestions here. You need to do your own research for YOUR decision.

Of course, that´s what i am doing right now. But i also like real world experiences from users whether everything works as advertised. That´s why i am asking if one device offers better handling, less configuration or firmware problems...that kind of things
