This is a playback problem, so I hope I've put it in the right thread.
Setup:
Mac OS 10.8.2 & Windows 7 (in Parrallels)
Make MKV 1.7.7 (Registered)
Handbrake 0.9.8 x86_64
OWC Mercury Pro Blu-ray Burner
Toast 11 Tintanium (11.0.6)
Verbatim Bluray & DVD blanks (Rewriteables used to do "test burns").
Sony BDP-S370 Blu-ray Player
Process:
- I'm using MakeMKV to back up 3 Bluray movies (owned by me) to one blu-ray disc. (To protect the originals from the gkids).
- Processed by Handbrake to reduce file sizes to around 7GB and to enure each files encoding profile is High@L4.1 or lower; to ensure they will play on my Sony BDP-S370 after being burnt to a blank disc. (As mentioned in another thread).
- If the MKV file only has DTS audio tracks I process the file using the "Popcorn AudioConvertor 1.87.4" which will convert the DTS audio track to a compatible AC3 file for playback on my Sony BDP-S370. (I opt to keep the DTS file).
- I run all my MKV files through "MKV Chapterizer" using the default of a chapter marker every 5 minutes. (Personal choice).
Burning to a Blu-ray disc:
- I use Toast 11 Tintanium (11.0.6) - DATA tab; DVD-ROM (UDF) setting for burning the 3 MKV files to a blank BD disc.
or:
- I use the BURN option in (Mac OS 10.8.2) FINDER to burn the folder containing the 3 MKV files to a blank BD disc.
Getting to the problem:
- The 3 MKV files I've prepared total 21Gbs. I burn to a blank Blu-ray disc using Toast. Burning completes successfully and I put the disc in my Sony BDP-S370. All 3 files play successfully. I can FF or FR, turn subs (when present) off and on, and jump chapter markers in all 3 files.
- I opt to add a smaller MKV file containing an "extra" from one of the original Blu-rays to fill the spare (approx) 3Gbs. It's prepared in exactly the same way as the original 3 movie files. I add it to Toast and all 4 files burn successfully.
Here's the problem:
The original 3 files play as they did before, I can FF or FR, and jump chapter markers. However when I select the 4th file, it starts playing ok, but I cannot FF or FR, or jump to chapter markers. I get the message:
"This operation currently prohibited for this disc".
OK, there must be something wrong with the 4th file. Right?
I delete the first movie file and burn a disc with 2 movie files and the "extra".
The two movie files play as before, I can FF or FR, and jump chapter markers. When I select the 4th file, (now 3rd), it starst to play as before and I can FF or FR, and jump chapter markers. There's nothing wrong with it that I can figure out.
Add the 1st file back and burn again, and the 4th file again starts playing ok, but I cannot FF or FR, or jump chapter markers, again I get the message: "This operation currently prohibited for this disc".
Has anyone else experienced this?
The only thing I haven't been able to do so far is test the disc with the 4 MKV files on it, on a different brand blu-ray player. I'll try to do that later in the week and hopefully this "problem" is brand/model specific.
Anyone with any thoughts about why I get this message or why this is happening, I'd be delighted to hear from you as working through this issue has taken quiet some time and is driving me a little nuts.
Thanks in advance.
Robert.

Hi!
Although I'm not a Mac user (My grandkids still laugh), I'd like to think we can apply some general logic:
It sounds like you've (or the Toast program has) created two "sessions" on your burned disc - the first comprised of videos "1" through "3" and the other of video "4" that you subsquently added.
Instead, try to create a new disc that INITIALLY includes all four videos...

Firstly, thank you for the feedback. Secondly, sorry for taking such a long time to reply. We've had power failures locally, and then everytime I use Handbrake to encode or re-encode, it takes a day a two, to get the results.
I haven't heard the term "sessions" used before when burning a disc. Do you mean eg: i burn 3 videos to the disc and it works ok, then i burn a 4th film to the same disc. The disc never having been closed properly. Thus two "sessions"?
It's my fault if I gave this impression. The problem required quiet an explanation and I've probably left things out that should have been mentioned.
I always burn to a rewriteable disc until I'm happy that the disc will work as expected. (Saves on coasters). So what I've been doing is dragging 3 BD films into Toast in one go, burning the disc, testing how it plays back; then erasing it completely before dragging 4 BD films into Toast in one go, and burning that. At this time the 4th BD film still issues the message "This operation currently prohibited for this disc" if I try to FF, FR or access chapter markers.
Today I tried using MakeMKV to rip some DVDs, (that I own), so that I could get 6 standard definition films onto one BD disc. I ran each film through Handbrake as I did with the BD fims. I burnt 6 films to a single BD disc using the same procedure as before. On testing all 6 films allow me to FF, FR and access chapter markers.
I now have a headache. It's late here, and I'm going to bed. Hopefully things will lok better in the morning.

Re: This operation currently prohibited for this disc.
This is a kicker.
As stated in my original post I have a Mac with Parrallels & Windows 7.
So I thought I'd try burning in Windows 7 using IMGBURN.
Surprisingly this worked.
Maybe it's OS10.8 I though. So I booted into OS10.6.8 and using Toast 11 tried again. This didn't work.
I went back to Windows 7 and tried again with IMGBURN and this worked.
I created a bluray disc with 4 folders.
The first folder contains 6 short films, each with chapter markers, (made using "MKV Chaperizer"), every 1 min.
The second folder contain 3 longer films, each with chapter markers, (made using "MKV Chaperizer"), every 5 min.
The 3rd and 4th folders contained music and pictures.
When playing back this disc I selected the 1st folder with 6 short films.
I can FF and FR each short and jump chapter markers.
The only thing I noticed was that the last short film in the 1st folder wouldn't jump from it's second last chapter marker to the last chapter marker, which "MKV Chaperizer" places at the very end of the video. I got the message "This operation currently prohibited for this disc". I assume this happened because it was the last chapter marker in the folder and there was nothing after it. (??) I could however FF (or FR) from this point.
When playing back the 2nd folder with 3 long films.
I can FF and FR each short and jump chapter markers.
Again I noticed that the 3rd film and last film in the folder wouldn't jump from it's second last chapter marker to the last chapter marker, which "MKV Chaperizer" places at the very end of the video. I got the message "This operation currently prohibited for this disc". I could however FF (or FR) from this point. So not a big deal.
The music plays fine, and the pictures display OK.
I'm not really fussed over whether I burn in OSX or Windows 7. It works in Windowss 7 which is fine.
But I'd really like to know whats going on in OSX and or Toast 11.

Go to the "Jump to" box at the lower right of the screen, click on the dropdown arrow and select the Mac-related subforum, "MakeMKV for Mac OS/X"
