Hello everyone.
I have been using the MakeMKV program for several years now, creating MKV files that I use on several different devices for playback (from players to VR headsets) and so far I have had no problems with playback on most of them. Recently, however, I managed to find a player on the Quest 3 headset - 4XVR - which is finally the only one that probably plays 3D movies in the MVC format. At the same time, there was a problem with image playback when the Dolby TrueHD/TrueHD Atmos audio track is turned on. For a moment, there is no sound, but the image plays smoothly. When the sound appears, the image freezes and watching actually ends, because of the 4XVR player stops responding. It does not matter whether I play the movie from the Samba server via wifi (6) or from an SSD drive connected directly to the VR headset. This applies to virtually every file with Dolby TrueHD that was created by MKV (3D MVC, 4K). However, there are no problems with playing files with DTS-HD MA or DTS: X tracks.
The solution turned out to be re-remuxing such a film in MKV Toolnix, then the problem with playing Dolby TrueHD tracks disappears. However, I have an irresistible impression that then the quality of the displayed PGS subtitles suffers slightly, as if they were more compressed. Or maybe I'm imagining it? Comparing the information in the NFO app, the subtitles are the same size. In general, I would like to avoid re-remuxing in MKV Toolnix, because there are dozens of films (the vast majority are 4K). I wrote the post to outline more clearly that such a problem occurs, and whether something can be done about it, only the creators of MakeMKV can deal with it. I will add that I used the Skybox VR player before, which buffered 4K films all the time, but I thought the problem was in sending over wifi.
Greetings to all, Slawomir.
