Whilst ripping standard DVD, the resulting files are always significantly larger that the source .VOB. For instance, ripping one 45 minute TV series segment results in 1.9Gig Mkv. There are four segments on the original DVD, plus the really big .VOB file that contains all four segments. Series is "Doc Martin"
Does MakeMKV have the capability to compress .VOB files something like .AVI does? I had this same problem with CloneDVD which is much slower than MakeMKV.
Thanks in advance

My guess is that you're assuming each episode fits in one file. VOB files cannot be larger than 1 GB. Each episode will be spread across two or more VOB files.
1.9 GB for 45 minutes is about 6 Mbps, which is perfectly normal (1 GB would be way too small for a 45-minute episode, quality would be horrible). All 4 episodes should total about 7.6 GB, which fits on a dual-layer disc.
