*edit* well it looks like there are no subtitles in the mkv, so that is not the problem.

ok. well i'm ripping a movie now with NO subtitles..i'll report back in about 35min. stick around and you'll have your answer. if that's it...i OWE YOU BIG TIME!

however, it will suck to rip a BD that NEED subtitles in certain areas and not be able to get them. is there any work around for that? i'm thinking of Avatar for example

4. I've got a black screen or "unsupported data" message when I launch a transcoded video file

4.1 with MEncoder alone

If this is happening with Mencoder, the culprit would be most likely the inter communication process between java and mencoder, as
Mplayer/Mencoder is a great app who takes virtually anything you throw at it. So, either your video must be really messed up,
or there's a bug or a wrong configuration/incompatibility with your system. In both cases, looking at the debug.log file is the only solution.

4.2 with AviSynth/MEncoder

You can first check if the video is playing in Windows Media Player / Media Player Classic. If yes, maybe you are
using some srt/sub subtitles files and haven't installed VobSub (the VSfilter.dll must be in the path, elsewhere you can copy it in the
AviSynth plugins folders). If this is not the case, you obviously met a bug, see question 3.1.

4.3 with tsMuxer

tsMuxer has not a large codec type support on PS3. It accepts AVC/H264, MPEG2, MP2, AC3, PCM codecs and MPG, TS, M2TS, MKV as input.
Also, H264 encoded with level 5 or exotic settings (reduce to Level 4.1 is just a header change, with no success garanty)
will not play on the PS3, hence your black screen maybe.

Well, all that you can try now is to use only the lossy DTS and Video stream in the mkv (this is the only difference between yours and the ones that do work), no DTS-MA, no subs. If that doesnt work, you might have to ask the ps3mediaserver dev, because they should definitely work as thats one of PMS's main function! (ie AVC+DTS in MKV -> TS)

No support for PGS/SUP subtitiles and DTS-MA would not be surprising

just finished a new rip with ONLY DTS lossy and NO sub titles at all...i'll go try right now.

well..it still won't stream to the PS3. I dunno wtf is going on..but i was SURE this was the place to get the answers. i'll be waiting for any further help anyone can give. TIA
