UHD Random Pixelation Issues

Post by aviator1512 »

Hi,
I'm new to this forum, and apologies if this topic has been covered before, however a quick search doesn't seem to reveal a definitive answer.
I've been ripping DVDs and BRs for many years, using various bits of software. I always rip as lossless (MP4 for DVD, MKV for BR). Have used MakeMKV, Leawo, DVDFab and DVDRipper
I've have recently been trying to rip UHD 4 films, and finding on playback some random pixelation issues.
I've checked the actual files and its definitely on the ripped image, so not a 'playback' issue. The image 'defect' is always in the same place on a particular file, and seems to be more prevalent when hi-bitrate scenes (action etc) are being played.
Virtually all the 4K discs I've ripped have some defect on the image at some point in the film.
Using MakeMKV and Leawo on the same film tends to produce overall good results, but with some pixelation at some random point in the film (never the same place for each rip, so not a disc issue).

I'm using an Archgon 8102 external drive, and wondering if the issue is there, or have people found its a RAM issue?
Can't say I've ever noticed an issue with DVD or 1080 bluray rips, albeit tend to use the fairly new pioneer drive for those (which has too new firmware for UHD ripping).

Are people getting genuine lossless results without defects (in MKV) and all their 'successful' rips?
All mine are playable and look excellent just with the random pixelation happening a few time per film.
