Newbie: MKV/Handbrake M4v unreadable by MAC? Windows m4v??

Trying to get all my Blurays into my iTunes Library for access by Apple TV.
This is my first try of MakeMKV and bluray with Handbrake so maybe I'm missing something.
I ripped Avatar on a Pioneer BDR-XD04 using MakeMKV.
Then Converted the mkv to m4v using Handbrake.
The resulting m4v proved to be unreadable by any of my Macs.
I also noticed that the Handbrake produced m4v file had the little Parallels dual red bar icon indicating that it is a PC file. ???? (I use Parallels on that machine). I tried the same process on my Mac Mini and no luck there either. I checked the file info and it is indeed a m4v but the default reader shows Windows media player???
I have used Handbrake successfully many times in the past using the same hardware with no problems but this is my first attempt with MakeMKV and Bluray.
What am I missing?
Thanks
