I've not been able to use MakeMKV this weekend because every time I fire up the program I get a dialog that says my version (v1.18.1) is out of date. I've tried downloading and installing, but all I download is the same v1.18.1. I've tried entering the Beta key, but that's the same – it expired July 31. Hope this can be sorted soon.

Ditto. I hope to see a new version soon.

ah that's what it is ! same here, just need to rip something and trying to figure out what / where etc ..

I HIGHLY recommend that everyone downloads the latest version to save a copy, next change your system time back a year and then open up MakeMKV after updating your system time & date. This gets around the Licensing issues and allows the Beta License to continue... Not the best solution but a solution that we are grateful for!!

You just need to download the latest version of MakeMKV on the homepage, the beta key will be updated with it.

The majority of people have done this, including myself, and unfortunately this doesn't resolve the issue.

The error message is incorrect. I’m not even sure if MakeMKV ever becomes outdated. The real issue right now is that there’s no valid license available. The Beta key expired at the end of July 2025, and PayPro, the payment service used by MakeMKV, has run out of licenses. If you try to buy one, you won’t receive a key, which is why the service was stopped, and new licenses cannot be purchased. It appears that Mike, the "Eierlegende Wollmilchsau" (German for jack-of-all-trades), the sole admin of MakeMKV, is on holiday, and it might be a while before he returns. For now, everyone is waiting for updates.

A workaround is to close MakeMKV (I usually close most apps and disconnect the internet, though that’s not strictly necessary) and set the operating system date to July 2025, when the Beta key was still valid. It’s far from ideal, but it seems to be the only way to use MakeMKV at the moment.

What is the advantage of going back an entire year? July 2025 should work perfectly.

What is to stop people sharing their bought keys? Do they only work on one machine?

You can use your key on multiple machines. The intention, of course, is they're all machines that you own. It would be unethical to share one's key indiscriminately. How far one shares a key is up to their own moral judgement I suppose.

In any case, an updated beta key has been posted so you can kick this ethical dilemma down the road, at least until the end of September.

Great news about the Beta Key being updated. I was just curious about how the keys worked.
