Hang then drive lost when opening a BD-RE on Mac OS 15.4

I have recorded a BD-RE on my DVR to copy an episode of a show I'm watching to my phone.
The BD-RE was running out of space, so I did a quick erase of it on the DVR (because the DVR said it will need about 3 hours to do a full format of the BD-RE).
After recording I've installed MakeMKV on my Mac and tried to open the disc. Right away I've noticed finding the drive takes much more time than it did on Windows. Opening the drive it stalled on the Decrypting step and then the drive eventually disappeared, with a MacOS popup of "eject before unplugging blah blah".
Plugged the same disc in a Windows machine on the same drive and it did the thing with flying colors (aside from a hiccup in one of the episodes, but maybe my disc is bad, it's from a dollar store
)

Am I doing something wrong?
