Backup to ISO image

Unlike DVDFab, MakeMKV doesn't offer you to create an ISO image from the backup. It just writes the backup into a folder. Usually this is playable with media players like the Dune, but using ISO images seems to be more reliable.
What is the recommended method to create a playable ISO image from that folder on the Mac?
I know a couple of techniques to generate ISO images from folders in OS X, namely disk utility (and its command line tool) or Roxio Toast. They all generate images with a proprietary file extensions, but I've read you can just change it to ISO and it should work. The question is, does it really work for full BD playback with media players like the Dune f.e.
Any suggestions welcome.
PS: I'd like to see an option to generate an ISO from the backup directly in MakeMKV.
