Backed up BD is SMALLER than the original?

Post by dilweegie »

I backed up a Bluray which had a BDMV size of 23.12GB. The Decrypted backup BDMV size is only 5.94GB!

How is this possible? This wasn't an encode... I used the Backup option and selected Decrypt.

No real way to tell without the name of the disk. It is entirely possible to put "23GB" of files on a smaller disk, if you have a lot of redundancy of names.

I don't happen to have that disc, so I can't check mine.

I'm not sure I exactly understand your scenario. You made both an encrypted and a decrypted backup of the same disc and got significantly different sized output?

I inserted the disc. Chose the Backup option. Clicked "Decrypt" and let it go.

Why wouldn't the output be exactly the same as the disc itself? What is getting compressed? I thought a backup would be the exact same file size as the disc?

And the ripping process finished without any error? (Silly question I know...)
