If it's an external drive, power it down for a few minutes.
If it's internal, power down the PC for a few minutes.
Power up again & see if things are better behaved.

I've got the same issue.
I tried reinstalling the application and I deleted the permissions in Security & Privacy >> Files and Folders: MakeMKV.app Removable Volumes.
Now I don't get the prompts to grant access again. I had to manually add the app to Full Disk Access, but it still does not have access to Removable Volumes.
I'm not sure if reading the discs are a problem specific to MakeMKV. VLC doesn't see the discs and neither does the DVD Player.app.
I was trying to set up VLC to use MakeMKV to decrypt.
My drive is an ASUS BW-16D1X-U. I'm on macOS Monterey 12.2.1

argh...my issue ended up being my drive quit spinning. Everything works fine for me after the replacement.
I did not get an error/request to grant access to the removable volume after replacing the drive.

d00zah's recommendation still stands. Try 'rebooting' the drive. There's a tiny computer inside the drive that controls the laser, motor, the works. Sometimes it needs to be rebooted. The only way to do it is to remove power from the drive then plug it back in. If it is external, flip the power switch or unplug the cables for a bit then try again. If it is internal, power down the PC and perhaps unplug it to make sure power is really gone, then try again.

It's external:

I've tried unplugging and plugging it back in. How long would you leave it unplugged for? Should I try re-flashing it?

Re-flashing the drive did not fix the problem. I do not understand what could be causing this.

You will have to take the drive out and tell us the info on the label maybe your drive was to old to flash
Unless you remember the drive info from before the flash then tell use that

It's a ASUS BW-16D1HT. It was flashed to 3.10 and worked perfectly up until yesterday when I started getting the error. So I thought flashing it again might reset it. But no go.

They do have a habit of dying do a full shutdown and see if it comes back after that
You can also test if DVDs work and if just the bluray laser died

DVD had the same error. Would it die so suddenly? The disc before it stopped went perfectly. Is it worth bringing it somewhere or just replacing?
