I use Plex to play my movies I ripped with MAKEMKV and HandBrake. They are all in H.264 1080p. These movies play fine on my Mac Pro on Plex. But when I play them via Plex app on Apple TV (4th gen) it converts them to 720p and won't let me change it. I tried PLAY ORIGINAL QUALITY but it doesn't work. My Mac Pro and Apple TV are connected via WIFI w/400 Mbps connection using the direct play method. Is it transcoding the files even though its connected locally and I am not remote streaming?

Any help is appreciated.

The Plex profile for your ATV needs to be updated to show that it can do 1080p. Plex sends what it thinks the client can handle.
