I tried few times. I have the full movie collection. The first 2 movies were decrypted just fine. Now, MakeMKV won't decrypt the 3rd one, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

The error messages you're getting point to a disk issue - the drive is trying to read the disk, but goes off-line, as far as the computer is concerned.

The movie disk itself is generally readable, as far as encryption is concerned, because I have that same set and have ripped all of the movies in it.

It was plugged in a hub that never gave me any troubles but after reading the error messages from MakeMKV, I plugged it directly in my Mac and that seems to have done the trick. I was able to decrypt the 5th movie of the series without any problem. Are hubs going bad all of a sudden? There are no moving parts in them. I tried a different port on my hub with the same result. That's when I decided to plug it directly to the Mac.

No, the issue is usually the drive starts spinning faster than the hub can provide power for. USB-powered drives really push the maximum power limits on a USB port, and any hub that does NOT have its own power supply is splitting 1 "USB power unit" between itself and everything plugged into it.

Some drives come with a two-head cable to get more power, but both plugs should go to "fully powered" USB ports; plugging them both into a non-powered hub just makes the situation worse.

I have a 7-port hub that came with a power supply rated for 5v 2a... which is "4 USB power units". That works fine for 6 Seagate 2TB "backup plus" portable drives, but I unplug those and use the dual-head cable for the LG USB BD writer.

Hmmm... I have a Saitek X52 Pro, a USB mouse, an M-Audio Fastrack, a Strix headset and my Samsung Blu-ray drive. But I had this setup for several months now and had been able with the same devices to decrypt Blu-ray discs multiple times. I just don't understand why the drive is suddenly working intermittently...

I was testing to see if using a slow USB flash drive as the ripping target could be a work-around for keeping rip speeds low.

Yes, the hub has a "power-on" light. And it's on. I re-connected the drive to the hub, although a different port. I have been able to decrypt 4 Blu-rays and 1 DVD without any problem. Go figure...

I'm having similar problems with LBJ (a month ago) & The blind side. This used to work...<arrrgh>

I had heard/rumor that the keys/encryption had been changed but that didn't make any sense since that would render older players obsolete. Maybe I'll try another drive.

Well, I finally resolved the issue by connecting my drive directly to my computer. Somehow, the drive was not getting enough power from the powered hub...

Using a USB power supply along with a double ended cable (2 standard USB2 plugs, 1 micro USB) for a BluRay drive, I could backup The Blind Side. LBJ still fails... here are the error messages:

The SCSI errors you're getting aren't related to drive power issues. MakeMKV was not able to read the part of the disk that contains key information, which is usually because that part of the disk is dirty or damaged.

Cleaning is the first attack on this sort of issue. Soft, damp cloth.

Hmmm, I bought this one new from Walmart from there bargain bin, I just checked the back side and it looks to be in great shape, no smudges, scratches, etc. I'll see if I can play it on a BluRay player,

I tried LBJ on an older (5+ years) BluRay player, it took awhile (minutes) to load but it did play. I wonder if makeMKV is timing out? The two BluRay drives are about a year old.
