How-To Enable DASPI kernel extension on Mac OS Sierra 10.12

I finally figured out how to get the DASPI kernel extension to say that it is working on Sierra after regularly seeing the message,
"It's highly recommended to install DASPI kernel extension to improve performance."
Seems like this should be in the sticky but I didn't see it so in case it really isn't elsewhere here's how I did it for my system:
1) reboot your Mac and hold the command+R to enter recovery mode. Some links said to hold it down right after the chime until the Apple logo appears and some said you had to hold it down all the way until the recovery showed up. I had to reboot a few times so I wasn't sure when it worked.
2) when you get the recovery console choose Terminal
3) Following the information here: http://anadoxin.org/blog/basic-facts-ab ... sions.html I typed the followinging in the terminal:
csrutil enable --without kext
After that I reboot. (I just typed reboot on the command line.)
When the system came up I now got the message from makemkv:
Optical drive "BD-RE ASUS BW-12D1S-U E401" opened in DASPI v1.5 mode
Before this I was getting:
Optical drive "BD-RE ASUS BW-12D1S-U E401d" opened in OS access mode.
I still am having DVD-R's from homebrew systems just hang during scanning (while other discs, both DVD and BD were working fine) so I still need to figure that out but at least I won't get the nag message anymore leaving me thinking I could be doing more to get good reads.
