Please help. What can I do? 3 tb ext hard drive with 400 gig available. This drive is only a year old so obtaining a new drive is unreasonable. Needless to say mkv failed. Log attached. I am trying to get my movie into itunes.

The warning about slow writes has ... well, not "nothing", but little ... to do with the failure. It just lets you know that MakeMKV COULD be faster, if your system could save the data as fast as it is coming off the optical disk.

Why "little" instead of "nothing"? Because the error that actually stopped the rip was a write-related error:

My guess is that your USB bus is having issues. Since the optical drive is also attached via USB, and powered by it, it could be taking away too much power as the drive spins up to maximum speed, and USB "crashes". The hard drive disconnects, the operating system gives and error, and the rip fails.

The specifications you give for the computer... is it a laptop? Laptops rarely provide full specification power to the USB port, and, if you need to plug more than one device into them, what power they do supply is split between the devices. I suggest you get yourself a powered USB hub to plug the LG optical disk into. That will remove its power requirements from the computer's USB bus, which should prevent the hard drive from being disconnected.

Well I think you may have nailed it. Yes i have a laptop and yes 2 usbs. The lg does run off of usb but the ext hard drive is on ac current.

My test of a bluray i have ripped before worked fine so i am going to try "this is it" again.

So do you think I just have a bad copy of the movie?

Okay, so i played the entire movie on a bluray played and it skipped right around where mkv crapped out so I have concluded that I have a bad copy of the movie.
