MakeMKV 1.7.2 and 1.7.1 failed BluRay Rip

Post by TheOneAndOnly » Fri Feb 10, 2012 3:25 pm

The Conspirator (Robert Redford Directed-2011 release with AACS v21) BluRay gives the following error messages under Make MKV 1.7.2 (purchased) running on Dual quad core 2.8GHz Intel Xeon Mac Pro with .MacOS 10.6.8 despite disk cleaning, permission repair, and restart. I also had the same experience with v 1.7.1 Despite earlier flawless function (years) the most current 2 versions of MakeMKV will not successfully rip this BluRay ...... I tried both titles that were 23.6G each.

MakeMKV v1.7.2 darwin(x86-release) started

This is a physically damaged disc.

I'm getting the same message. The disc plays just fine on my PS3.

Viking.... I must agree with Mike's advice to me. I have been able to obtain different version, sometimes same version on different disc and they work fine. Sometimes it is a malformed format. The disks I can't rip always play on my Sony BR player. Hope this helps

I've got this message on about 3 of the last 7 discs I've tried. All play perfectly on my PS3. I'm wondering if there is some copy protection on these discs that are throwing MakeMKV for a loop? Perhaps there is an issue with the drive? It is a external portable LG drive "Slim Portable Blu-ray Writer" model BP40NS20.

If you can suggest a trial version of some software that does a function similar to MakeMKV then that might tells us if the issue is the drive, the disc, or MakeMKV.

Hate to quote you any names on this forum.... Google can find you a bunch. Honestly there are several, but none as good as Makemkv. I do know that not every BR drive is compatible with Makemakv. Also make sure you use DASPI 1.3

How do I know if I'm using DASPI 1.3? My drive came with an old version of Cyberlink PowerDVD (version 10). I don't if that installed it? Does installing MakeMKV also install DASPI?

Even when makeMKV works it takes 5-10 minutes to start. I don't know what it is doing in these 5-10 minutes.

This is the MakeMKV for Mac OS X subforum. You can't install PowerDVD under OS X. You can't install the DASPI kext under non-OSX OSes.

I am getting the same error on multiple discs. For one - LOTR extended editions - it ripped FOTR and ROTK just fine, but spit out TTT. Can't be a new type of encryption, therefore, it must be something else.

There hasn't been an update to MakeMKV lately, so I am at a loss to know why it has suddenly started having problems.

I have only had this problem with one disc, and it is Despicable Me that I bought from the UK (Most all of my blu rays are from the US). I have the LG BP06LU10. I'm thinking that it doesn't read the format.

I am getting this problem too. This is the second time it's happened in between only 3 out of the last 3 rips. What is going on here?

It's not makemkv's fault, because it won't mount to the desktop right away either. it just makes a lot of repetitive whirring noises, one of them clearly sounds like a "nah-uh" like it's telling me to forgettaboutit...

this is the first i've had problems since i started ripping in august this year. drive is only 6 months old. it's also the LG slim blu ray drive, maybe it's the drive starting to conk out?

Also, for the record the error mine keeps giving is:

Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:1090' occurred while reading 'BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE BP40NS20 ML01' at offset '24977078272'

maybe that "offset" code somehow can tell us what its having trouble with? Like I said though, it doesn't seem to be makemkv's fault, it seems to either be a bus problem or hardware/media problem.
