If Extraction works, is it OK to not install DASPI?

Mac Mini Mid 2010
OSX 10.6.8
Internally installed Sony Optiarc BC-5640H
MakeMKV 1.8.7

I am new to MakeMKV and BD encoding, but have done extensive DVD encoding for use in PLEX. After installing the above drive in the above Mac, I have used MakeMKV to extract files from two Blu-Rays with no apparent complications. I also used this drive to do a DVD burn from OSX after a BD extraction without issue (no re-booting). I did not run the DASPI package installer. I tend to believe in the "if it isn't broken . . . " adage, so unless there is something I don't know, I'm not planning on installing DASPI. Is there something I'm not aware of that would require me to install it?
