Looking for comparison:
BD-RE TSSTcorp BDDVDW SE-506AB TS01" opened in DASPI v1.3 mode; max speed I get on a bluray is x2.2; would open os mode be faster?

No, as DASPI layer is only used to query keys and diagnostic information from the drive. The actual file read is always through OS call. You should get the same speed as if you copy M2TS file in finder.
