Verbatim 43888 Flash Help

#1 Post by sacredunity4444 » Sat Apr 05, 2025 8:42 pm

So I just bought the Verbatim 43888 Blu-Ray player for my Mac. I'm running Sequoia 15. I just now realized from here it needs to be flashed. I've been here viewtopic.php?f=16&t=19634#:~:text=NB52 ... Fid%3D2143 and followed the guide but so far it hasn't worked. Here is the info on the drive: OS device name: /dev/rdisk8
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.05
Serial number: MODOAMA0847
Firmware date: 2124-04-23 13:47
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959

Any help would be greatly appreciated as the guide didn't help much and I'd like to use it without the issues. Thanks

What were your commands in Terminal?
All of this:
Mac/linux commands to flash.

1. download sdf.bin https://makemkv.com/sdf.bin
2. download the all you need firmware pack

3. Extract the file you need for your drive from the all you need firmware pack pick from the recommended firmware section.

4. then in terminal on the Mac
copy sdf.bin and the firmware file extracted from theall you need firmware pack into /tmp folder.

5. in terminal change directory "cd /Applications/MakeMKV.app/Contents/MacOS"

6. type "./makemkvcon f -l"

This will show your drive identifier should look similar to this ''/IOBDServices/D5D25996'
Found 1 drives(s)
00: /IOBDServices/D5D25996, /dev/rdisk3, /dev/rdisk3
HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BU40N_1.01_211910161032_MOFK6283224

7. to perform the flash, type "./makemkvcon f -d '/IOBDServices/D5D25996' -f /tmp/sdf.bin rawflash main -i /tmp/your firmware filename here
or ./makemkvcon f -d '/IOBDServices/D5D25996' -f /tmp/sdf.bin rawflash enc -i /tmp/your firmware filename here

Without more detail about your attempt to flash your drive, I don't know how to help you. Lots of people struggle to translate what the guide says into actual commands that work on their machine. Some people try to flash the wrong firmware onto the drive in question. Some people don't use the enc version of the command when they should or vice versa.

Here is what I did when I tried to get help on Reddit. You can read in the comments I made.

I have since formatted that hard drive as of yesterday. I’m pretty techy so if you could give help with the right commands or whatever else I need to do, I can figure it out. Again any help is greatly appreciated.

Since I just put it on a new drive and haven’t used it yet this would be a fresh start.

Here's post where I helped someone else through the process of flashing a drive on the Mac. Perhaps it'll help you.

Thanks, so I can just do steps 6 & 7? I don't need to worry about the first 5. I have both files on the desktop in a folder named tmp.

Your link to the other post helped and it has been flashed. Thank you so much for all your help. I don't know what I was doing wrong last time, maybe I didn't change the name of the drive. Either way it's fixed now and I can move on to ripping dvd's. Thanks again.

Have you tried using MakeMKV to double check LibreDrive support? I'm wondering if the "Possible, not yet enabled" recognition is due to firmware or macOS restricting access to /dev/rdisk8?
